I think GIFs are a sweet spot. Longer form video has to be an incredible investment of time and energy, and while I'm sure this isn't super quick, it delivers a lot of the same punch at a fraction of the effort. I've been playing with GIFs as storytelling aids myself, and really enjoy them. I think they take advantage of the medium in interesting and noteworthy ways.
Yeah, they're definitely quicker in a certain sense—you don't have to do any sound mixing! In this case I made the gif in my video editor since I was also making a video lol so the animation part was basically the same amount of effort each way!
