it's always so cool to see crocuses since they're the first flowers that arrive after winter, it's like they're opening the entire door into spring! plus they look so beautiful
I guess so! I also just love the way they look - the flowers are so delicate but sprightly, and the leaves are so pointy and a beautiful dark green! and they appear together in little clusters and just look so happy
besides their astonishing simple beauty, i love that their centers are saffron. sometimes i think to pick them all for their centers, to harvest it. but i can't bring myself to, because i just love how they look and the bees come to them as one of the first spring flowers. :)
What were you most impressed with?

Nice. So, it's beautiful largely because of what it represents, ya?

A little sense of wonder at the world is a healthy thing.

Did not know that's where saffron comes from!
next spring, take a moment to breathe in the blossom. so saffron-fragrant! :)
yes, that is why saffron is quite expensive. you get just a few strands from each crocus and you must hand harvest.
I really don't know doodly about crocuses. Do they grow in Virginia?
i would guess so. here's a planting guide: https://thegardeningdad.com/best-time-to-plant-crocus-in-virginia/
and here's some general info (including the nuances of harvesting :)

I'm gonna see if I can find some "in the wild" (or just in someone's garden around here).
